Requesting a Letter of Eligiblity to be a Godparent or Sponsor

It is an honor to be asked to be a Godparent or sponsor for someone who is going to be Baptized or receive Confirmation.   The expectation of the Church for Gosparents and Sponsors is that they are living the Catholic Faith.  For this reason, the parish where the Baptism is taking place will expect a Letter of Eligiblity to be a Godparent or sponsor.  Below are the requirements for eligiblity.   If you fufill these requirements, contact the rectory to request a Letter of Eligibility  Please understand that the priest can only issue a letter if you fulfill these requirements.
 

• Requirements for a Letter of Eligibility to be a Godparent or Sponsor
  • You must be a registered parishioner
  • You must be at least 16 years of age or older
  • You must have already received all 3 Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist)
  • You must attend Mass regularly.
  • If you are married, the marriage needs to be recognized by the Catholic Church.  Meaning, you were prepared by a priest for your marriage.
